OpenAI acquires remote collaboration platform

bernieBlog

OpenAI is on an acquisition spree, recently purchasing database tech firm Rockset and now acquiring startup Multi (formerly Remotion), which focuses on developing a video-first collaboration platform for enterprises.

Multi’s team, consisting of around five people, is expected to join OpenAI after the deal is finalized. Multi’s CEO, Alexander Embiricos, announced that Multi will cease operations after July 24.

OpenAI’s strategic move towards enterprise solutions has been evident with their recent acquisitions. The company’s revenue is projected to exceed $3.4 billion this year, thanks to the success of their corporate-tier AI-powered chatbot platform, ChatGPT, which is being used by 93% of Fortune 500 companies. OpenAI has also partnered with PwC to resell their tools to other businesses and launched a business-oriented AI model tuning and consulting program.

Considering OpenAI’s focus on corporate products, it’s not far-fetched to imagine an enhanced version of ChatGPT with videoconferencing and remote collaboration capabilities in the future. This could be a response to the increasing time lag between the releases of OpenAI’s flagship models.
