Nvidia announced that its latest AI chip, Blackwell, will begin shipping in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025 and launch at the same time as the Hopper chip. Due to “surprisingly large” demand, Blackwell is expected to remain in short supply for several quarters, with production ramping up to fiscal 2026. Nvidia said that while there are certain supply constraints, the company is on track to beat revenue expectations and expects Blackwell’s profit margin to be in the 70 to 80 percent range.
In its most recent earnings report, Nvidia showed record AI revenue and profit, showing that the company continues to advance amid strong market demand in the AI era. Despite foreign media reports of possible heat dissipation issues with Blackwell servers, Nvidia did not respond to this, but stressed that Blackwell chips are fully in production and will continue to deliver more chips. So far, Nvidia has shipped 13,000 Blackwell samples to customers.
Nvidia started as a graphics and gaming company, but now its data center business vastly outstrips its other businesses in revenue. Ai-enabled data center revenue reached $30.7 billion last quarter, accounting for the vast majority of total revenue, while the gaming business only contributed $2 billion to $3 billion per quarter. Nvidia’s total revenue was $35 billion, with profits from its AI business growing significantly, from $14.8 billion in the first quarter to $19.3 billion in the third quarter.
Although rival AMD has yet to make significant progress in its AI business, it is also adjusting its strategy to meet AI needs. Both Nvidia and AMD have accelerated their research and development schedules and plan to introduce new chips every year to meet growing market demand. Nvidia’s H200 chip became the fastest-selling product ever, with billions of dollars in sales last quarter, while the H100 chip was the original AI winner.
Nvidia expects demand for its H-series chips to continue to grow strongly next year. At the same time, Intel has lagged behind in the field of AI and is restructuring to catch up with the market.
In short, Nvidia’s leadership and strong performance in AI chips have made it one of the most valuable companies in the world, surpassing Microsoft and Apple. With the introduction of Blackwell and other AI chips, Nvidia is expected to continue to lead the market and drive the widespread adoption and development of AI technology.
