Opera has launched an iOS version of its AI-powered web browser, Opera One, now available on the Apple Store. This alternative to Safari offers a range of features designed to attract Safari users, with its standout feature being Aria, the AI assistant integrated into Opera’s browser lineup over the past year.
Aria, which is free and built into the browser, combines advanced search capabilities with text and image generation similar to ChatGPT. Users can interact with Aria, asking it to compose text, write software code, and provide real-time information sourced from the web, complete with direct links. Switching between chatting with Aria and using the browser is seamless with just a tap.
Furthermore, users have the option to converse with Aria through voice commands instead of typing, although the AI does not respond with voice like ChatGPT’s Voice Mode or Google Gemini Live. For image creation, users can submit prompts to Aria, which will generate or modify a picture that can be easily shared using Google’s Imagen 2 model.
Opera One offers several unique features that distinguish it from Safari, going beyond AI integration to enhance the browsing experience. One notable distinction is the “Bottom Search” feature, which positions the search bar at the bottom of the screen. According to Opera, this design facilitates easier one-handed navigation, especially on larger iPhone models. Additionally, Opera One’s search capabilities have been enhanced with intelligent suggestions and predictive keywords, providing users with more efficient and personalized search results.
Another standout feature is the swipe-to-search gesture, which replicates the familiar swipe-down action used to search for apps on an iPhone. This gesture allows users to quickly access the search bar without the need to navigate through menus, further streamlining the browsing experience. These unique functionalities contribute to Opera One’s goal of offering a user-friendly and efficient alternative to Safari on iOS devices.
